Future-Facing Remedies

Home » Lexicon » Future-Facing Remedies

Future-facing remedies are solutions designed not only to address past wrongs, but to reshape relationships and institutions going forward. Compensation cheques and one-time apologies have limited reach; they acknowledge harm but often leave the underlying structures intact. Future-facing remedies ask: what needs to change so that the same patterns do not simply continue?

For the Haldimand Tract, future-facing remedies might include: creating a hereditary registry for Mohawk Loyalist posterity, establishing shared jurisdictional bodies over land use and taxation, dedicating portions of revenue streams back to the rightful beneficiaries, and building educational and legal infrastructures that treat Haldimand as a living constitutional instrument. The goal is not just to say “sorry for the past,” but to build a future in which the original commitments are visibly honoured.

About Benjamin Doolittle U.E.

listen to BLOODLINE

“Bloodline” follows the Haldimand Proclamation from its original promise to the present fight to have it honoured. The track moves through Crown grants, broken commitments, and the legal and political road back to enforcement, asking listeners to hear the Proclamation not as a relic of the past, but as a living obligation that still binds the Crown to the Mohawk Nation of Grand River.
